South Bank Community Land Trust is a not-for-profit run by local residents. It works to bring lasting good to South Bank through community ownership. It started in response to empty homes and a lack of investment. Its aim is good, affordable housing and shared spaces. One key project has been doing up empty homes in South Bank. These now have new kitchens, bathrooms, heating, insulation and solar panels. They are rented at affordable prices to local people. Local builders did the work and helped train students from Redcar College. The Trust also runs a small Eco Shop. For a small set fee, members can get food and household items. It looks after an allotment too, where food is grown and shared. Local volunteers can help out. A board of local volunteers runs the Trust, putting the community first.
