About us
South Bank Community Land Trust is a resident-led not-for-profit organisation established to bring long-term benefit to the South Bank area through community ownership.
Formed in response to the growing number of empty properties and lack of investment in the neighbourhood, the CLT aims to create quality, affordable housing and shared spaces that serve the local community.
One of its key projects has involved refurbishing several empty homes in South Bank.
These properties were renovated to modern standards with new kitchens, bathrooms, insulation, heating systems, and solar panels, and are now offered at affordable rent levels to local residents.
The work was carried out by local contractors and supported the training of students from Redcar College, helping to build skills and keep investment within the area.
In addition to housing, South Bank CLT runs a small Eco Shop for local people.
For a small set fee, members of the community can access a selection of food and household items, helping to make everyday essentials more affordable.
The CLT also manages an allotment space where food is grown and shared locally, with regular volunteering opportunities open to residents.
Governed by a board of local volunteers, the trust operates with the aim of putting community priorities at the heart of future development.
It continues to explore opportunities to expand housing, community growing projects, and accessible services that meet real local needs.
