St Hilda’s Church

About us

St Hilda’s Church in Redcar is a modern, purpose-built church completed in 2022, replacing the original building which dated back to the 1960s.

The old structure was demolished in 2017 due to structural concerns, and the new church was designed with community consultation in mind.

It incorporates features from the previous building, including salvaged stained glass, and was created to serve as both a place of worship and a centre for local community activity.

The church plays a key role in supporting the surrounding area, offering various services and welcoming spaces for people of all backgrounds.

One of its main initiatives is a community cafe, which provides low-cost food and refreshments in a warm and friendly environment.

The cafe also includes a ‘Pay It Forward’ scheme, allowing visitors to contribute towards meals or drinks for others who may be struggling financially.

In addition to the cafe, St Hilda’s operates an Eco Shop which offers essential items such as food, clothing, and household goods at very low prices.

This service is designed to help local residents manage their budgets while promoting sustainability by reducing waste.

The shop is open to everyone and encourages a supportive and dignified way for people to access what they need.

Together, the church, cafe, and Eco Shop form a vital part of the Redcar community.

St Hilda’s is more than just a place of worship—it is a hub for social connection, practical support, and shared purpose.

Whether people are visiting for spiritual reasons, a chat over a cuppa, or help with everyday essentials, they are welcomed with kindness and respect.
